Week 3 Blog Post
How deep is the Ocean?
Well on average, the ocean is 2.3 miles deep. But that was not the purpose of the song! Bing Crosby proposes many questions in his song, such as; How high is the sky? and How far is the journey from here to a star? His main question in his song was, "How much do I love you?". He tries to express his love for this woman by using exaggerated examples of measure. I can imagine this love song being guy's go to song to set the romantic mood on a date. Besides the lyrics, the song is very simple with only few different of rhythms repeating itself over and over. His voice as well exemplifies the era and the audience who he is trying to appeal. My favorite part of the song is that he actually does not say "I love you". He answers his question with another question, which can be thought provoking to whoever he is singing this song to. My least favorite part is that the flow of the song can become mundane and somewhat repetitive, especially with no major bridge between the second and third chorus. That would give it a little ear catcher to the audience. While a great love song, thank goodness the song is a short one!
I really liked how you started your blog post! It really drew me in and kept me interested the whole time I was reading! I agree with all that you said about this song. I also think that the song is repetitive and I dont think it could've gone on for much longer without it becoming too boring and predictable, so I also agree that Im glad the song is short and sweet.

It really puts you in to perspective about what the song is about and how it shows emotion. I find it really interesting that it is a love song because I wouldn't have even guessed that it was from the title! Good job, this was a great blog!
ReplyDeleteI agree that it's a great love song. The analogies to exaggerated forms of measurement describing his love are great! I definitely think I would be a great song to set a romantic mood. His voice fits the song perfectly and the music is simple and repetitive.
