Nancy (with a smiling face) by Frank Siantra

Frank Sinatra is one of the greatest performers of all time. He is so good, that Paulie from "The Sopranos", chooses this song for his return from prison. But its history is not as it seems. Both Frank Sinatra's wife and daughter were named Nancy. But Jimmy Van Heuson who composed the song originally wrote it as Bessie (with the laughing face)". The song was such a hit, that when they would perform it, they would use the name of whose party they attended. When they sang it for Frank Sinatra's daughter, they sung it as Nancy... with a laughing face". Frank loved it so much, that he recorded his own version of it and that is ow we remember it.

But for the actual song itself, a soft and soothing melody that is accompanied with Frank Sinatra makes it a wonderful song. It's lyrics are full of compliments toward the lady, and its beat adds its own measure to the way he feels about her, in a loving way. My favorite part of the song is toward the middle/end is when it changes tune and becomes louder and more intense, and then resumes back to its original calm melody. It catches your attention and makes you listen more intently.

  1. I agree with your analysis of the song. I love Frank Sinatra's voice and I find it relaxing and soothing to listen to. I didn't know the history behind the song and I thought that was so interesting! I think that is such a cool history behind the song and gives it more depth and meaning.
