La la la la la bamba
I chose La Bamba as my song for this not only because it is a catchy song but I watched the movie “La Bamba” back when I was studying Spanish in high school. Ritchie Valens was a very talented musician, becoming famous and signing his first deal around 17 yrs old. While he became a star very fast, he unfortunately died in a plane accident only 8 months into his career. Yet he is forever remembered by his most famous song, “La Bamba”.
La bamba expresses the mix of Hispanic music and rock and roll. Richie Valens actually was hesitant at first to combine his Hispanic heritage with rock and roll but it ended up being a hit. It appealed to two different listening groups, which is why it is so popular. The song consists of string bass, drums, piano, acoustic guitar, and electric guitar. It’s upbeat tempo and lyrics really draw you in and get you dancing 💃. The song is in a simple verse-chorus form. I really enjoyed the song and the story behind it.
I bet it was very scary especially during that time period with racism to share your culture in popular music. Like with race records people just wouldn't listen because it was by people of color. I wish we had more latin music in our music today because it's always so unique and up beat like la bamba.
